Vertex-disjoint subgraphs with high degree sums

چکیده
For a graph G, we denote by σ2(G) the minimum degree sum of two non-adjacent vertices if G is non-complete; otherwise, σ2(G) = +∞. In this paper, we give the following two results; (i) If s1 and s2 are integers with s1, s2 ≥ 2 and if G is a non-complete graph with σ2(G) ≥ 2(s1 + s2 + 1) − 1, then G contains two vertexdisjoint subgraphs H1 and H2 such that each Hi is a graph of order at least si + 1 with σ2(Hi) ≥ 2si − 1. (ii) If s1 and s2 are integers with s1, s2 ≥ 2 and if G is a non-complete triangle-free graph with σ2(G) ≥ 2(s1 + s2)− 1, then G contains two vertex-disjoint subgraphs H1 and H2 such that each Hi is a graph of order at least 2si with σ2(Hi) ≥ 2si−1. By using this kind of results, we also give some corollaries concerning the degree conditions for the existence of vertex-disjoint cycles.

Conditions for families of disjoint k-connected subgraphs in a graph
In [Many disjoint dense subgraphs versus large k-connected subgraphs in large graphs with given edge density, Discrete Math. 309 (2009), 997–1000.], Böhme and Kostochka showed that every large enough graph with sufficient edge density contains either a kconnected subgraph of order at least r or a family of r vertex-disjoint k-connected subgraphs. Motivated by this, in this note we explore the l...
متن کاملForcing highly connected subgraphs
By a theorem of Mader [5], highly connected subgraphs can be forced in finite graphs by assuming a high minimum degree. Solving a problem of Diestel [2], we extend this result to infinite graphs. Here, it is necessary to require not only high degree for the vertices but also high vertex-degree (or multiplicity) for the ends of the graph, i.e. a large number of disjoint rays in each end. We give...
متن کاملPacking subgraphs in a graph
For a fixed family of graphs, an -packing of a graph is a set of pairwise vertex-disjoint (or edge-disjoint) subgraphs of , each isomorphic to an element of . We focus on the algorithmic aspects of the problem of finding an -packing that maximizes the number of covered edges. We present results for and . For , we present approximation algorithms for bounded degree graphs, improving the ratio kn...
متن کاملSplice Graphs and their Vertex-Degree-Based Invariants
Let G_1 and G_2 be simple connected graphs with disjoint vertex sets V(G_1) and V(G_2), respectively. For given vertices a_1in V(G_1) and a_2in V(G_2), a splice of G_1 and G_2 by vertices a_1 and a_2 is defined by identifying the vertices a_1 and a_2 in the union of G_1 and G_2. In this paper, we present exact formulas for computing some vertex-degree-based graph invariants of splice of graphs.
متن کاملSufficient Condition for the Existence of Three Disjoint Theta Graphs
A theta graph is the union of three internally disjoint paths that have the same two distinct end vertices. We show that every graph of order n ≥ 12 and size at least ⌊ 11n−18 2 ⌋ contains three disjoint theta graphs. As a corollary, every graph of order n ≥ 12 and size at least ⌊ 11n−18 2 ⌋ contains three disjoint cycles of even length. 1. Terminology and introduction In this paper, we only co...
